DESN2008

This course was a group project using a 'wicked problem' as a basis of design. My group and I decided to address the growing problem of HECS debt and how despite having many publicly available resources, information on HECS Debt usually circulates by word of mouth. In many ways, it is taught as a set-and-forget system, and thus students do not seek to educate themselves on its intricacies. However, HECS Debt can impact other aspects of financial stability in unforeseen ways, such as automatic repayments being withdrawn from payslips and maximum loan lending capacity for other loans.

Project

In this project we decided to build a HECS ATM of sorts, this product will help students check on their HECS debt and also dispense information about how HECS works and where to go if they have any questions. The HECS ATM also comes with a brochure that helps students understand what HECS is. By the end of this course we managed to have a high fidelity prototype up and working, this included a physical booth including features such as an ATM style, interactive screens, an estimation of HECS that is owing rather than an exact amount and a QR code with branding on exterior. We also had a brochure that focused on HECS is important to know about with some quick stats for visual interest and a QR code that links to more practical tips and directive on how to handle HECS debt.
